Abstract

587,195. Correspondence control. WELDALL & ASSEMBLY, Ltd., and CONACHER, H. H. Nov. 4, 1944, No. 21641. [Class 40 (i)] A control circuit for starting a conveyer and automatically stopping it at a given position comprises a drum 1 carrying continuous sliprings a, d, f and interrupted slip-rings b1, b2, c1, c2, e. The slip-rings co-operate with contacts a1 d1, f1, b, c, e1, e2, respectively, the slip-rings e, f and b1, c2, d and c1 b2, a being connected together internally. The drum is secured,to a spindle 2 to which also is secured a knob 6 carrying a spring arm 5. A pin 7 on the spring arm is selectively engaged in recesses 8 in an indicator disc 4 so as to cause it to revolve witli the spindle. The disc 4 is driven step-by-step by a motor 15 in unison with the conveyer, and carries the peripheral contacts 17 which wipe the fixed contacts 18, 19. The recesses .8 are numbered to correspond to the number of containers on the conveyor and the number of contacts 17. is equal to half the number of the containers. The position of the pin 7 in the recesses is altered by the knob to control the stopping of the conveyor at the given position. The forward and reverse movement of the conveyor is controlled by the slip-rings e, f through solenoids 9, 10 energized by a battery 11. A battery 22 energizes the field windings 27, 27a of the motor 15, 28 through a normally-open contact 23 or 24 operated by. a cam 25 driven by the conveyor and the contacts 17. The current passes through the slip-rings d, bl to the armature 28 of the motor 15, and thence to the slip-rings cl, a. The motor 28 causes the disc to revolve until the contacts 19 rest on insulation and the contacts 18 on a strip. 17 whereupon the motor 15, 28 is stopped. The cam 25 moves half a revolution with each container and then closes the other contacts 23 or 24, thus imparting step-by-step motion to the disc until the selected position of the slip-rings and hence the conveyer and disc motor circuits are broken at the slip-rings e, b, c. In a modification, the circuits may be made and broken by cams and levers. The Provisional Specification states also that indicating lights and a clutch to disconnect the shaft from the driving motor may be used.
