Abstract
917,761. Electromagnetic switches. DITTO Inc. June 15, 1959, No. 20392/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XVI] An electromagnetic stepping switch comprises a plurality of wiper arms A, B &c. mounted on a common shaft 112 and spaced therealong, and sequentially engaging contacts a-z, there being a series of contacts for each wiper arm or for a pair of arms. Some of the arms are 180 degrees out of phase with the others, while all the contact series are in the same angular position. The shaft is earthed through a brush 113. When a magnet 100 is energized, the armature 101 pivoted at 103 causes a pawl 104 to move over a ratchet 106, and when the magnet is deenergized, a spring 108 causes the pawl to drive the ratchet and move all the arms through a distance of one contact. Normally, the arms are driven step-by-step as the magnet is controlled from an external source, but during part of the cycle an interrupter switch 107 is placed in circuit with the magnet and causes a rapid movement of the arms until the circuit to the switch 107 is broken when a dog 116 on the shaft 112 opens a switch 115.
