Abstract

587,155. Thermionic valve circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1943, No. 19376. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] The reaction of one valve stage on the power supply to which it is connected, and so on the other stages connected to the same supply is prevented by providing a second valve which draws from the supply current of approximately equal magnitude, but of opposite phase. The valves have separate cathode connections to ground through separate impedances and the second valve is controlled by a coupling between the valves. In this way an oscillograph may be operated from a single supply source which energizes amplifiers feeding the X-axis and Y-axis and the grid modulating the beam. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which the auxiliary valve 7 is fed from the anode of the amplifier 6. With this arrangement, a push-pull output may be taken from the cathodes with earth as the centre point. The circuit may be used for voltage gain or with a voltage gain of less than unity, for impedance transformation. In the. latter case, the resistances 8, 9 are preferably equal and are less than the resistances 24 and 25. In the former case, the output is taken from the anodes and larger anode resistances are used. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes Fig. 1 (Cancelled) an auxiliary valve 7, the cathode of which is connected to the cathode of the amplifying valve 6 and through a common impedance, 16 to earth. The grid of the auxiliary valve being earthed and the output being taken between the cathodes and earth. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
