Abstract
609,041. Valve amplifying circuits. PHILCO PRODUCTS, Inc. Jan. 8, 1946, No. 649. Convention date, Jan. 8, 1945. [Class 40 (vi)] An amplifier for television and other purposes requiring wide band-width and relatively high output voltage comprises a plurality of valves connected in series, anode to cathode. The input signal is applied to the grid of the first valve, the grids of the succeeding valves being connected to a point on the load system at which the signal amplitude is less than that at the corresponding cathode. The Figure shows an amplifier in which the signal is fed to control grid 61 of the first of three similar valves 62, 76 and 89. A point is chosen on section 69, 70 of the load system such that the alternating voltage across 69 is equal to the signal voltage applied to grid 61 and this point is connected to control grid 75 of the second valve 76. In a similar manner, point 85 is selected on the load and connected to the control grid 88 of the third valve 89. The output is taken from the anode of the third valve and ground. The output impedance is thus that of the valves in series and the input impedance that of the first valve only. The total gain is the gain of one stage multiplied by the number of valves. A common H.T. source 70<1> is shown, but in an alternative arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown), separate H.T. and G.B. sources and separate load impedances are provided for each valve.
