[Class 131] A device for use in permanent waving comprises a divided outer case tube a closed at one end by the end wall f to which a heater tube is detachably fastened, a removable curler tube which may, however, be dispensed with and is not shown in Fig. 2 the hair being coiled on the metal casing of the heater tube and a winding device consisting of a tube m, rotatable by the knurled knob v, and fitted with annular flanges each of which has a slot o for the passage of a strand of hair. The end wall f is built up of sections f1, f2, f3 and is secured to the tube a by the two-pin plug h which also serves to complete the electrical connection to the heater element. In use a strand of hair is laid within the open tube a, the root portion being at f, passed through the slots o and confined therein by a gate several modifications of which are described, and the remaining length of the strand allowed to hang from the open end p of the tube a. The winder is rotated and gradually slid outwardly until all the hair is wound on the metal casing of the heater tube, the tube a closed and the curl subjected to heat. After heating the tube a is opened and the curl is withdrawn from the tube. a. The Provisional Specification describes gripping members for the lock of hair at its point of entry in the outer case tube in the form of rubber lips.
