Abstract

1,170,875. Hair curling device. M. J. CICCONE. 2 May, 1968, No. 20791/68. Heading A4Y. A device for forming hair curls comprises a mandrel 10 carrying a longitudinally movable, peripheral slider 12 having radially inwardly directed projections 20 located in longitudinal grooves 16 in the mandrel surface, the grooves having stops 18 at one end which engage with the projections. 20 to prevent withdrawal of the mandrel from the slider. The slider has other projections 26 located in grooves 14, these grooves having no stops so that the projections 26 will extend out beyond the end of the mandrel when the slider is in the stopped position; a flange 28 also extends beyond the mandrel at this point. A further flange 18 is provided on the other end of the mandrel to stop the slider at this end. The inner edge of the slider and the end face of the mandrel are beveled. The slider and mandrel are preferably made of plastics material. In use, a tress of hair is wrapped around the mandrel, which is then wound down to the scalp. The mandrel is then drawn through the slider so that the projections 26 and flange 28 push the curl off the mandrel for subsequent pinning.
