[Class 114] An apparatus for the propulsion of watercraft comprises a combustion chamber 1 having a fuel inlet valve 2 to admit explosive charge, a series of water inlet valves 5 by which water from the tank 6 enters to compress the explosive mixture in the chamber 1 and later to effect scavenging, a sparking-plug 4, an exhaust valve 3 and a main transmission pipe 7 extending the full length of the ship and terminating in nozzles 8 and 9 and containing gate valves 10 and 11, electrically controlled, allowing water to be forced forward or astern after firing.
