Abstract
762,325. Jet propulsion of ships. MOUNTANOS, D. K. March 28. 1955 [July 30, 1954], No. 22275/54. Class 114. A ship propulsion unit comprises a boiler 1 into which sea water is fed, withdrawal pipes 2 leading from the bottom of the boiler and passing through the furnace to reducing chambers 8 and thence to propelling cones 16 adapted to eject a mixture of water and steam into the sea to propel the ships. The cones may be double, one half then serving for reverse travel, and are formed with concentric rings of diverging nozzles parallel to the axis of the cone. The reducing chamber may be pipes of varying diameter provided with control valves. Nozzles may be provided in the sides of the ship to steer her.
