Abstract

586,441. Valves. SHEPHERD, G. R. (Westinghouse Electric International Co.). May 12, 1944, No. 9151. [Class 135] A valve mechanism particularly for electric ally-actuated valves for the blast gas of electric circuit interrupters comprises a valve member 21 co-operating with a seat 53 to control the blast gas from a tank 1 to the circuit breakers 11, 15. The valve member 21 has a short stem 37 which slides within an outer stem 39 and is connected thereto by a spring 42 secured by pins 43, 45 to allow some relative movement: The outer stem 39 is connected to the operating lever arm 23 and has a number of guide vanes 47 which allow passage of the gas when the valve is open and abut against the end of the tube 7 when the valve is closed. When the valve is closed suddenly the seat 53 only takes the shock of the valve member 21, the remainder of the mechanism moving against the spring 42 until the vanes 47 contact the tube 7. In a modified arrangement the lever has a projection which comes up against an abutment on the casing to take the shock of the moving mechanism and the seat is made of a separate ring of resilient materials.
