Abstract

Cellulosic fibrous material is impregnated with at least its own weight of an aqueous solution of a condensation product of dicyandiamide and formaldehyde prepared in the presence of an ammonium phosphate and the resinous body is precipitated from solution by means of alkali, e.g. caustic soda. Cellulosic fabric is impregnated with a syrup such as that prepared by stirring a mixture of dicyandiamide (146 parts), formaldehyde (420 parts) and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (182 parts) at 60 DEG C. until a clear syrup is obtained. Water-repellant compositions may also be added, such as "Velan PF" or "Dipsanil V" (Registered Trade Marks).
