Abstract

585,840. Fluid-pressure presses. WOLVERHAMPTON DIE-CASTING CO., Ltd., and WHITEHEAD, E. G. Sept. 11, 1944, No. 17259. [Class 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] The ram of a pressure-casting machine is operated, to fill the mould, by gas pressure continuously acting on a piston connected thereto and is returned by liquid pressure acting on another piston. As shown, the ram, connected at r, and both pistons B, G are co-axial, being connected by rods b, g. The piston B is continuously acted on from above by compressed air by a pipe E and is open to the atmosphere below by a vent a. The piston G is vented at f<1> above and can be raised by oil pressure supplied at H by a three-way valve to return the ram or allowed to move down by moving said valve to its other position, the oil being allowed to flow from the cylinder F to the sump.
