Abstract
585,745. Kinematograph film registering apparatus. TECHNICOLOR MOTION PICTURE CORPORATION. Oct. 16; 1944, No. 19951. Convention date, Feb. 17. [Class 98 (ii)] The apparatus, which may be used in imbibition printing, or in the process of uniting the component films of a multicolour film, comprises a belt having teeth to engage the sprocket holes of the films, means for continuously guiding the belt in a straight path through the apparatus, means for continuously guiding two films to the belt at spaced locations along its path, upper and lower co-operating rollers between said locations, between which rollers the belt and the first film pass for seating this film on the belt before the second film is applied thereover, and upper and lower rollers beyond the second location between which rollers the belt and both films pass for seating the second film over the first. The apparatus may be carried by a plate removably secured to an inside wall of a tank, which wall may be a partition having a separate apparatus secured to each side. Provision may be made for causing the upper roller to bear upon the lower roller with adjustable spring pressure. As shown, for use in imbibition printing, the belt 11 passes in and out of a tank through slits in the side walls 3 and is edgeguided by pairs of rollers 19, one roller of each pair being spring-biassed. The first film 12, which is the receptive film, after passing round a roller. 26 is pressed upon the belt in the nip of rollers 27, 28; and the second film 13, the matrix. after passing round rollers 29, 30 is pressed upon the first, partly in the nip of rollers 32, 33 and partly by an endless belt 35 passing round rollers 31-34 and driven by the rollers 32, 33. A block 60 supports the belt 11 beneath the belt 35 and carries a transparent plate 64. The parts are carried by a removable vertical plate 14 and are visible through a transparent wall of the tank. The upper rollers 27, 32 are mounted on carriages 38 slidable, with the interposition of adjustable ball races 50, in guides 40 on the plate 14, and are pressed towards rollers 28, 33 by springs 41 whose pressure is adjusted by screws 42 threaded on arms 43 pivoted at 44 on the plate 14 and held in the operative position by spring latches 46. Jets 68 and 61 are provided for supplying water respectively to the first film, and between the two films, surplus water escaping from the tank partly at the belt slits and partly at an overflow 9. Specification 565,836 is referred to.
