Abstract
A therapeutic preparation for intramuscular or subcutaneous injection is obtained by making a menstrum comprising sterile distilled water, gelatine in proportions in excess of 12-30 per cent., dextrose in proportions in excess of 5-12 per cent., and acetic acid in proportions in excess of 0.3-1.5 per cent., and then at a temperature of about 100 DEG F. adding to the menstrum a soluble injectible therapeutic agent and sufficient water to bring the composition within the above stated percentage ranges. Suitable therapeutic agents include one or more of the following: suprarenin, digitalis, ephedrine, adrin, morphine, pantophone, dilaudide, codeine, hyoscine hydrobromide, scopolamine, sodium barbital, pituitrin, antuitrin, pitressin, pitocin and heparin. Vasoconstrictors such as epinephrine hydrochloride and ephedrine sulphate and other additions such as eucupine and alcoholic chlorbutanol may also be included. Preferably the menstrum is made by first dissolving the gelatine in the water, subjecting the solution to vacuum, cooling and congealing the solution, again subjecting it to vacuum, dissolving the dextrose and acetic acid and boiling the mixture in vacuo. The preparation is preferably sealed in ampules in the absence of oxygen.
