Abstract

In the extraction of oil or fats from seeds, nuts &c. by liquid solvents, the solvent miscella is recovered from the extracted material by subjecting it to agitation upon a vibratory screen, prior to drying of the extracted material. In a suitable plant, the extracted material is fed on to an inclined vibrating screen 4, driven by a motor 5, arranged within a chamber 3 disposed between the extractor 1 and the drying apparatus 7. The solvent <PICT:0584272/III/1> miscella shaken off collects on the inclined bottom surface of the chamber 3 and flows to an outlet 6. In avoiding the use of a press, the material is left sufficiently open for the efficient removal of the remaining solvent and then the water content in the drying apparatus.
