[Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] In apparatus for drying, baking or otherwise treating articles, such as newly-painted articles 4, by infra-red rays, of the kind in which the articles are conveyed in series through a heatradiating tunnel-like wall 1 of blackened sheet steel adapted to be heated e.g. by gas burner 3 located between said wall 1 and an outer heatinsulating wall 2, adequate heating of the front and rear of the articles is ensured by forming the inner wall 1 with circumferential corrugations, Fig. 1, preferably of circular or parabolic section, so that the rays are radiated inwardly at a variety of angles to the axis of the tunnel. Alternatively the articles are rotated during their passage through a plain tunnel, the articles being suspended from a conveyer cable 6 by vertical rods 7, Fig. 4, or supported by turntables mounted on a conveyer band within the tunnel, and the said rods or turntables each being fitted with a sprocket 8 for rolling-engagement with a common stationary chain 9.
