185,204. Wilding, H. R., and Barrett, A. May 28, 1921. Bakers' and drying ovens.-A rotary-reel type oven for baking or drying is heated externally. The baking-chamber or oven proper q is enclosed within an outer heat-insulating casing g, and the two are separated by a space i through which heating-gases from burners y pass on their way to the flue 10. Both casings are of octagonal form, and the outer one is double-walled with a packing of asbestos, slag wool, or other heat non- conducting material, while the inner one is formed of fire-bricks set in a metal framework. The casings are preferably split longitudinallv for convenience in transport, and the outer one is bolted to frames e carrying the end walls o, in which are mounted the bearings k<1> for the reel. The end walls q<2>, q<3> of the baking chamber may either be set close to the end walls o of the outer casing, or may, as shown, be spaced therefrom to provide end heating spaces. The oven is heated by independently-controlled gas burners y carried by an apertured metal plate v, and above the burners is an inverted V-shaped deflector 2 having two rows of damper-controlled slots along its length. The edges of the deflector are upturned to support water-heating pipes 7 which may be connected to other pipes 8 in the upper part of the structure. Baffles 29 may be fitted in the heating-space i, and above the baking- chamber may be provided a heat deflector 28 having perforations which decrease in size from the ends to the middle, where the flue 10 is situated. The door s is glass-panelled, and gives access to a number of spaced casings u leading to the interior of the baking-chamber, and in front of the door is a shelf s<6> for supporting the loaves during loading and unloading. At one end of the structure a valve-controlled connection is provided, through which waste gases from the heating- space can be led to the proving-trough, and the baking chamber is fitted with a steam outlet pipe 16 leading to the flue 10. The reel is driven through reducing-gearing from an electric motor mounted on a bracket on an end wall.
