Abstract
1432053 Strengthening glassware ANCHOR HOCKING CORP 27 March 1973 [27 March 1972] 14769/73 Heading C1M [Also in Division F4] Glass articles are heat treated by passing them, on a conveyer 10, through a tunnel furnace 20 heated by the circulation of burning and heated gases within an insulated enclosure 22. Air curtains divide the tunnel into a temperature equalizing zone, a treatment zone and an annealing zone, and the combustion space 22 is divided by partitions extending nearly to the surface of the tunnel. The air curtains at either end of the treatment zone are directed towards each other and the treatment vapour, e.g. Cu 2 Cl 2 vapour, is obtained from a boat of the material in a tube 60, Fig. 7, extending through the combustion space below an opening in the tunnel wall. The furnace is used for the treatment of soda-lime glass articles, e.g. bottles with cuprous halogen vapour to strengthen them.
