Abstract
1395067 Tunnel furnaces DEUTSCHE GOLD - UND SILBER - SCHEIDEANSTALT 4 July 1972 [7 July 1971] 31157/72 Heading F4B A tunnel furnace for continuous firing or sintering of elongated ceramic mouldings comprises a housing 1, a lining 2 and a well structure formed within the furnace by hollow refractory block elements 4 dividing the interior into a firing zone 8 and a flame zone 3. The blocks 4 have openings 6 towards which the flames from burners 5 are directed, the gases filling the zone 3 and penetrating into the blocks 4 and heating the walls 7 which radiate heat into the zone 8. The walls 7 are thinner than the other walls of the blocks 4. Hot gas diffusing through the wall structure is removed by suction through tubes 10. The material 15 to be treated is mounted in an arched cover 13 having insulation 14. The cover 13 has rollers travelling on rails and thus forms a trolley that moves along the top of the furnace carrying the material slowly through the furnace. The trolley is cooled by drawing in outside air through a gap between the trolley and the furnace, through opening 12 and into channels 11. The hollow blocks 4 may be open top and bottom to allow circulation of hot gases within the wall. The blocks may be held together with motor or they may interlock, e.g. as shown in Fig. 4.
