Abstract
583,869. Constructional ironwork. KARI, A. March 27, 1944, Nos. 5590 and 18806. [Classes 20 (i) and 20 (ii)] Connecting means for structural components comprise a pair of interlocking members one of which is provided with parallel channels closed at one end which receive the marginal portions of the other member. The invention is applicable to protective structures for building sites and also houses, factories, garages, hangars, bridges, mine galleries &c. In Figs. 2 and 3 a rectangular end member 24 welded on the end of a roof component b<1> is received in opposed channels 22 on a plate 20 attached at a suitable angle to a vertical structure supporting component a. The channels 22 are closed at one end 25. Fig. 7 shows a connection 30 forming a separate unit for two parts of a roof component in which the end members 32 of these components b', b<2> are engaged with the channels 31 of the connection 30 from opposite directions. In Fig. 9 is shown a V-shaped connecting unit between roof components b<2>, forming the ridge of the roof. The closure of the ends of the channels may be of semi-circular shape the end members being suitably modified to correspond. The channels may be on a horizontal plane or at an angle thereto. Purlins or side-bars may be connected by slotted or perforated lugs 26, Figs. 2 and 3 or by channels and end members to the connections or to the structural components. Locking means may be provided to prevent disengagement of the connections. Fig. 13 shows a connection for structural components a', b' of girder form designed to withstand heavy loads and comprises duplicate channel members 53 on the component a', closed at 55 and engaged by end members on the roof component b<3>. An open connection for the roof components b' comprises a plate 62, Fig. 17, forming a separate connecting unit and having opposed channels on each face closed at 60, 61 respectively. This modification may be constructed in the manner of Fig. 13 with duplicate connections. Working clearances in the connections allow slight displacement, so that wind pressure &c. will be taken simultaneously by all connections. The second Provisional Specification describes methods for locking the uprights of a structure in position when the structure has been swung into upright position after erection on the ground. It also describes connecting members having more than one slot so that each member may support a number of ridge spars.
