Abstract
583,505. Injection-moulding machines. CAPON, HEATON, & CO., Ltd., and BOOT, A. Sept. 28, 1944, No. 18598. [Class 87 (ii)] In an injection-moulding machine for thermoplastic or thermo-setting materials, the injection cylinder and plunger have combined with them a container for the material to be injected, means for heating only that end of the container which communicates with the cylinder, and means for forcing into the cylinder material rendered plastic by contact with the heated part of the container. In the Figure, a is the injection cylinder, h the plunger and c the die. The container g is situated above the cylinder a, with which it is in communication through an outlet i. The lower end of the container g is heated by an electrical heating element k. A piston m presses the material in the container g into contact with the heated end surface, where it is rendered plastic, being then forced into the cylinder a. An adjustable collar n limits the inward movement of the plunger h. The cylinder a may have an exterior heating means such as an electrical coil d. The nozzle b may have cooling means such as a water jacket e, to prevent excessive transfer of heat when a heated die is used.
