Abstract

583,393. Pipes for pumping systems; pipe joints. DENNIS BROS., Ltd., and DAWES, H. W. Aug. 30, 1944, No. 16459. [Classes 99 (i) and 102 (i)] [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXII] 'In 'an arrangement for emptying or flushing drains &c. a pipe 11 is connected by a short length of hose 12 to a valve 13 having an operating lever 16. The valve 13 is connected to rigid member comprising an elbow piece 15, pipe 14, inverted T-pipe 17, counterbalance arm 47 and counterbalance weight 48 that is connected to the flange of the pipe 17 by a tie rod 50. A Y-pipe 23 is mounted on a tank and is connected to two elbow-pieces 19 that enter the arms of the inverted T-pipe 17 and the joints are provided with packing and gland nuts 20. The arms of the inverted T-pipe 17 are carried by bearings 21 mounted in the Y-piece so that the pipe 17 can pivot about a horizontal axis. The Y-pipe is mounted in the tank to pivot about a vertical axis and is bolted to an extension 26 that rests on a ball-bearing carried by a flange 30. Packing is held in position by thrust, rings engaging gland nuts 35, 39, the nut 39 carrying a further seal 42.
