Abstract
583,149. Cigarette paper. MATTHEWS, R. E., and HARRISON, W. D. Oct. 10, 1944, No. 19510. Convention date, Nov. 25, 1943. [Class 96] The burning rate of cigarette paper, e.g., made from flax fibre and containing calcium carbonate filler, is increased, the tendency of its ash to flake off is reduced, and the wet-strength of the paper increased, e.g., 10 per cent., by impregnation with ammonium sulphate and phosphate, e.g., after the sixth drying roll 11, and heating, ammonia being liberated. 1.57 lbs. of sulphate, 1.26 of mono-, and 0.31 of di-ammonium phosphate may be dissolved in 50 gallons of water for treating 500 lbs. of paper. The solution is pumped at 16 to a trough 13 and applied by a roller 19. Overflow and drainage through a strainer 22 are returned to the supply tank 17.
