Abstract

583,008. Flexible tube pumps. WALKER' H. J. BELL-, HIBBERT, D. M. (Representatives of WALKER, C. BELL-), and WARDMAN, C. B. Sept. 5, 1944, No. 16967. [Class 110 (ii)] A flexible member 18 is pressed into helical grooves 40 by an eccentric 32, on a shaft 34, acting through a conical member 28, to pump fluid from an inlet 42 to a delivery 44, and/or 52. A number of grooves may be arranged parallel to each other. To vary the pump capacity, the member 28 is moved axially when a gearwheel 46 is rotated. This meshes with teeth 44 on a bush 38 which is rotated and moves axially through screw action with threads 14. A further adjustment is arranged by elongating the holes 50 in the cover 12 through which pass studs 24. Fig. 4 shows a modification having inlet and outlet points 42, 52, and includes a mushroom-shaped bush 58 with an axial bore 60 leading to a lower chamber enclosed by a cap 59. The bush 58 secures the bottom wall of the member 18 and may be adjusted, by means of its thread, to alter the pre-determined blow-off pressure which deforms the member 18 allowing fluid to return to the section. The member 28 may be made of any non-metallic material, and may be of a self-lubricating anti-friction nature. The numbers of inlets and deliveries may differ from each other. Grooves may be arranged on each side of the member 18.
