Abstract

582,991. Fluid measuring devices. LONDEX, Ltd., BESSON, A. P., and DOSSETT, J. V. April 25, 1944, No. 7679. [Class 69 (i)] In a flow indicating device comprising a closing member arranged to be displaced in a fluid passage according to the rate of flow, an indicating member fastened to a spindle carrying the closing member is arranged in a dome of transparent material secured to the hollow body containing the passage. As shown, the closing member comprises a flat disc 1 co-operating with a passage 2 in a dividing web in the casing 3. The disc is carried on a stem 5 guided in a boss 6 and a cover-plate 8 and has at its end an indicating disc 9 working in a transparent dome 10, e.g. of glass clamped with the plate 8 to the casing 3 by a collar nut 11. One side 12 of the dome may be rendered non-transparent, for instance by painting it white to show up the indicating disc 9 which may be coloured. A graduated scale or indicating marks 13 may be provided at one or both sides of the dome. Alternatively, a scale carried by the stem 5 may co-operate with a fixed pointer. The lower part 14 of the dome may be rendered opaque to obscure the disc 9 in the " no flow " position. The closing member 1 may seat on or slide in the passage 2 which may in some cases be tapered to give large displacements of the closing member for small changes in flow. The closing member may be of metal or synthetic moulding-material. It may be rigid or elastic and in the latter case may comprise a disc of rubber, leather or the like supported at one or both sides by smaller rigid discs. The displacement of the closing member may also actuate a relay or like control mechanism, e.g. to start or stop a motor.
