Abstract

1361954 Force balance instrument SYBRON CORP 31 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 4904/73 Heading G1W A force balance instrument comprises a housing 20, a fulcrum 14 adjustable along the housing by means of a nut 16 and screw 18, a lever 12 pivoted about the fulcrum 14 and to the ends of which a force F1 and counterbalance force F2 are applied, and a leaf-spring 58 urging the nut 16 and screw 18 against the housing 20. Screw 18 is supported by V-bearings 24 of housing 20, and prevented from vertical movement by washers 26, 28. Nut 16 carries an arm 38 which engages a slot in the housing to guide the nut, the end 42 of arm 38 co-operating with a scale on housing 20 to indicate the fulcrum position. Leaf-spring 58 is flexed by its engagement with a slot 54 in housing 20 and exerts a force on the nut 16 to urge the nut and screw against the V-bearing and a torque on the nut to urge the arm 38 against one side of its slot. The spring 58 is preferably flexed beyond its elastic limit. Force F1 may represent a differential pressure and be applied to lever 12 via a bellows or a force beam. Force F2 may be provided by a feedback motor controlled by a detecting device.
