Abstract
363,722. Zeroizing-mechanism. KENT, Ltd., G., 199, High Holborn, London, and HANDFORD, R. E., Biscot Road Works, Luton, Bedfordshire. Sept. 23, 1930, No. 28498. [Class 106 (i).] The pointer (or pointers) of a liquid measuring and delivering apparatus is zeroized by operation of a control device which releases a fork member to allow it to move under spring action to effect the zeroizing, the speed of the zeroizing and return strokes of the control device being under control to prevent too rapid operation. The flow of liquid through the pipe 2 operates a gyratory piston 45 (s u c h as is described in Specification 213,061, [Class 110 (ii), Rotary engines &c.]), the rotations of which are transmitted by a disc 51 and reduction &c. gearing 30, 33 to a spindle 4 carrying the pointer 6 and also to a spindle 40 driving at a reduced rate the pointer 7. On the spindles of the pointers are two cams 8, 9 for engagement by a fork member 10 carried by a rod 11 enlarged at 15. The rod is normally restrained against downward movement by detents 13 engaging a groove 12 but when the control knob 17 is depressed the detents are released and the rod descends under pressure of the spring 16 stressed by the depression of the knob. The latter is restored by a further spring 19 and violent movements in either direction are prevented by a dashpot piston 22 sliding in an annular oil chamber formed by the coaxial tubes 21, 24.
