Abstract
582,341. Electric follow-up systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and CHOUDHURY, S-U. A. April 21, 1944, No. 7487. [Class 40 (i)] In a Selsyn transmitter the armature is provided with a commutated winding having a, pair of short-circuited brushes arranged at right angles to the field winding. Relative angular displacement of the transmitter and receiver rotors will produce a current in the quadrature axis of both machines, which by interaction with the field excitation of the receiver produces a torque to turn the receiver rotor. Due to the commutated winding of the transmitter being short-circuited across the quadrature axis, it will carry a reflection of the quadrature current and produce a torque opposing that produced by the quadrature current itself. The secondary voltages supplied to the receiver windings 3 may be provided by means of a separate polyphase winding 6 on the rotor as, shown or by equidistantly spaced tappings from the commutated winding 5.
