Abstract
581,344. Wireless signalling. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. Jan. 19, 1944, No. 1078. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1943. [Class 40 (v)] A secret radio communication system employs pulses of high-frequency radiation modulated by the desired signal and the receiver is provided with gating means synchronized independently of the pulses for rendering the receiver operative only during pulse reception. Confusing or noise signals are simultaneously radiated on a wider directive diagram, or on a wider frequency band, or with a different pulse rate or with wider pulses. As shown, the desired signal from the source 17 modulates a carrier from the generator 13 in a modulator 14, and the modulated wave is broken up by pulses 31 from a pulse source 30 in an amplifier 15, the wave being radiated from an aerial 16. The receiver 18 is controlled by pulses from a source 32 synchronized with the source 30 so that reception is possible only at the times at which pulses are arriving at the aerial 19. Interference in the intervals between pulses is thus eliminated. Spurious signals from a source 24 are modulated on a carrier from a generator 21 and the modulated wave passed to an amplifier 23 which may be tuned to pass a broader band than the amplifier 15. The aerial 25 for the spurious transmission may be designed to radiate over a wider angle than the main aerial 16, as indicated by the directional diagrams 26, 27. The spurious transmission may be continuous, or may be pulsed at a different rate or with wider pulses than the desired transmission.
