Abstract

The dielectric surrounding an electric cable consists of inner and outer layers formed of vulcanized rubber-like polymerized 2-chlorobutadiene and/or copolymers of butadiene and acrylic acid nitrile admixed with polyisobutylene, the ratio of the polyisobutylene to the synthetic rubber being greater than 2 to 1 and not greater than 5 to 1, and an intermediate layer of a compound comprising a mixture of the same materials in different proportions, viz.: from 2 to 1 down to 1 to 1. Protective braid or braids may be applied to the insulated cable. Examples of compositions used in the manufacture of the intermediate layer are given.
