Abstract

580,438. Chucks. WARING, A. Dec. 22, 1944, No. 25741. [Class 83 (iii)] In a chuck having a. rotary casing to effect the grip or release of the tool by hand whilst the spindle is rotating, the casing is provided with an additional cover to hide screws and other broken surfaces and protect the operator's hand. The tool 3 is gripped by jaws 2 when the casing 5 containing a cam ring 4 is rotated. Screws 7 hold stops 6 secure, to limit the travel of the casing. These screws have hexagonal or square recesses in their heads and are drilled axially to accommodate springs 10 and balls 9. The projecting sleeve 11 is provided with an internal annular groove 12 that engages the balls, allowing the sleeve to be freely rotatable and normally maintaining it in operative position, but permitting displacement when access to the screws is required.
