[Class 140] A laminated structure comprises a continuous sheet of magnesium or magnesium-rich alloy and a lamina of fibrous material covering and closely secured by adhesive to each face of the magnesium sheet. The fibrous material is preferably wood veneer giving a strong plywood, but it may be cloth, woven or otherwise fabricated of cotton, wool, glass, rayon or other synthetic fibre, felt or paper. The laminae or plies are cemented together by a synthetic resin adhesive. particularly one of the phenol formaldehyde or urea formaldehyde resins. The outer layers protect the magnesium from corrosion and may also be utilized for decorative effects.
