[Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A front end ram for a tipping vehicle comprises a three part telescopic ram having the intermediate cylinder 1, Fig. 1, combined with an oil container 5 trunnioned at 7, the outer ram. 17 being provided with a collar 18 having journals 19, 20 for the front body bracket 32, Fig. 2, the top of the oil container encircling the intermediate cylinder 1 and being reinforced by a ring 12 to strengthen the ram mounting, and the body bracket 32 being pivoted at 34 to the front of the body 33 to prevent distortion in tipping. The container 5 is supplied with oil through the hollow trunnion 7 by a pump driven by the gear take-off or mounted directly on the gear box, the oil being returned to the pump through a connection 38, an overload relief valve and lowering valve being preferably combined with the pump. The base 3 of the hoist is fixed to the bottom of the oil container and carries the intermediate cylinder 1 in which works a ram 22 provided at its bottom with a piston 23 perforated at 24 and at its top end with a piston 25 perforated at 26 which works in the outer ram 17 provided with a cover 29. The stroke of the combined ram is limited by the piston 23 abutting a stop 28 on the intermediate ram 1 and an abutment 21 on the outer ram 17 abutting the upper piston 25 of the inner ram 22. A plurality of rams may be mounted across the body with separate oil feeds and, if desired, each may be provided with valve means operable automatically to prevent sudden lowering of the body on failure of the oil feed.
