Abstract

1402214 Grab excavators POCLAIN 16 July 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 33818/73 Heading E1F [Also in Division F1] A telescopic boom 1, 2, which supports a hydraulically operated device 17 and is extended by a ram 4, 5, houses a pair of similar rams 19, 20, which are connected to the opposite way round between members 1 and 2, through which fluid is supplied to the device 17. To extend the boom fluid is fed to the rams 4, 5 by a pump 10 and a valve 13. When this occurs the ram 19 extends and the ram 20 contracts. Fluid is transferred between the rams 19, 20 through conduits 32, 29, and 33, 30, and since the rams are similar no extra fluid is required and no fluid is returned to the reservoir during extension or retraction. Fluid is supplied to the device 17 by a pump 39 and a valve 42. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates an embodiment in which the supply conduits to the device 17 are arranged differently.
