Abstract

579,880. Sighting instruments for aircraft. BYGRAVE, L. C. Oct. 12, 1933, No. 28187. [Class 97 (ii)] To assist an air or other craft in maintaining a desired course, the rotations of a telescope 1 or other sighting line, which is continuously directed towards a fixed object, about a horizontal axis B stabilised in azimuth, e.g. by a gyro-magnetic compass, are used to give steering indications or to control the steering automatically. The axis B is maintained parallel to the desired course so that whilst this is being followed by the craft, rotations. about the perpendicular axis A only are necessary to enable the telescope to follow the fixed object.
