Search-lights, directing. - A search-light 137 is mounted so that, by the aid of readings obtained by means of a sound locator of the " roofangle " of the horizontal path of an aircraft and the direction of this path, the axis 135 can be set normal to the "roof -plane," i.e. the plane passing through the observer and the path of the target, so that while sweeping about this axis the searchlight beam will constantly intersect the path of the target. By means of the handle 152 the base 129 is turned until the pointer 148 indicates that the axis 132 is parallel to the path of the target. By means of the handle 144 the outer gimbal 134 is tilted until the pointer 146 indicates against the scale 145 the correct " roof angle " for the course.
