Abstract

[Class 61 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a tool for cutting out and removing, portions of sheet material and for cutting out and bending down tongues in sheet metal; a movable 'jaw or draw punch extends through an aperture in a co-operating fixed jaw or die and a shim member or packing piece or an adjustable thrust member determines the spacing of the cutting edge of the movable' jaw relative to the cutting edge of the fixed jaw. In one form, Fig. 1, the cutter is in the form of a hand tool comprising a body 11 to which is secured a fixed die plate 10 with a die opening 24 and a handle 12. A movable handle member 13 pivoted to the member 11 at 16 has a nose 17 adapted to engage and reciprocate through the die opening, a movable jaw or punch 23 having a cutting edge 25. The movable jaw is guided at the front by a member 27a and at the rear by an interchangeable L -shaped shim 29 whose thickness or position of adjustment relatively to its holding screw 28 determines the position of the front edge of the movable jaw relatively to the corresponding edge of the die opening 24. The jaw 23 may have a series of cutting edges 31 as shown in Fig. 4. Both the dieplate and jaw 23 may be replaced by others of different size and shape.
