Abstract

577,371. Shear-blades, punches and dies. HAUT, F. June 5, 1944, No. 10815. [Class 83 (iv)] A press tool, particularly for punching out laminations of high grade sheet metal, has the cutting edges of the punch and die built up of elements of tungsten or tungsten compound inserted in separate pieces into the punch and die body. The invention is described with reference to a punch-and die for stamping out U-shaped blanks. The die comprises a base 1 to which are bolted elements comprising tungsten or tungsten carbide blocks 5 brazed to backing pieces 8. By using standardised sizes of straight and arcuate elements, various forms of dies and punches could be assembled for stamping out various shapes. If a limited space does not allow this method of attaching the cutting elements, the tungsten elements may be brazed directly to the base or body of the punch or die.
