Abstract
578,452. Closures for drums and like containers. METAL CONTAINERS, Ltd., and FRICKEL, G. M. March 31, 1944, No. 6064. [Classes 21 and 66] [Also in Group XXV] A closure for a drum or like container comprises a clamping ring 1, embracing flanges on the drum and its lid, and tightened by turning a lever 9 pivoted at 10 on a lug 3 on one end of the ring 1, parallel to the plane of the ring, so as to draw the ends of the ring 1 together, with the aid of a link 7 pivoted, at 8 to the lever 9 and also, at 6 to a lug 2 on the other end of the ring 1, the link 7 covering the abutting ends of the ring &c. when closed, in which position, the handle of the lever 9 lies along the inside of the ring, and the drum may be sealed by a wire passing through a hole in it and through a catch welded to the ring. In a modification, adjustment of tightness of the ring 1 is provided by forming the pivot 10 eccentrically in a dished disc turned by a handle which can be locked against one of a series of stops on the lever 9 which pivots on the dished disc. Circumferentially-spaced lugs may be welded to the ring to support it in position before tightening. Specification 565,525 is referred to.
