Abstract
578,316. Heating liquids by electric resistances. RANDALL, P. E. Dec. 16, 1943, No. 21100. [Class 39 (iii)] A heater for electro-plating or pickling vats or similar vessels comprises electric resistances clamped externally on a plate 7 of lead or other corrosion-resisting material forming a removable wall of a chamber 1 having lead pipes 2, 3 for connection to upper and lower parts of the vat to give thermosyphonic circulation. The heating elements comprise two concentric annular metal channels 11, 12 housing insulating material in which the resistances are embedded, and dished covers 13, 14 on a bolt 9 with nuts 15 press the channels in place. The head of the bolt passes through the plate 7 and has a cover 10 of lead or other acid-resisting material. A thermostat may be placed in the vat. Specification 216,564, [Class 39 (iii)], is referred to.
