Abstract

578,248. Inductances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and WELLINGS, J. G. Aug. 15, 1944, No. 15555. [Class 38 (ii)] A compact reactor suitable for use in limiting the current in single phase circuits for electric discharge lamps comprises a winding divided into a number of sections, 1, 2, 3, 4 connected in parallel, series or series-parallel, each section being wound on one limb provided with an air-gap of a multi-limbed rectangular core and so wound and connected that flux circulates in opposite directions in adjacent limbs and interlinks coils on adjacent limbs. To facilitate construction, former-wound coils may be used, the core being split at 7 into two similar parts 6, or into a straight yoke and a yoke with which the whole of the limbs form a unit. Some of the limbs may also be divided down the centre to reduce the size of the core sections. Specification 272,525, [Class 38 (ii)], is referred to.
