Abstract
577,894. Gun recoil apparatus. SMITH, W. H. Aug. 5, 1940, No. 6232/41. Divided out of 572,468. [Class 92 (i)] The recoil of the gun barrel B is absorbed by rubber or like rings D compressed against the trunnion band C by a collar A on the barrel moving in a cylinder E attached to the trunnion band, the cylinder being coaxial with the barrel and housing the rubber rings. Resistance to recoil is provided partly by compression of the rubber and partly by frictional 'resistance caused by squeezing the rings against the housing cylinder. The rings may be replaced by a helix of rubber surrounding the gun barrel. The rebound may be resisted by similar rubber rings G or a helix of rubber pressed against a ring F on the housing cylinder.
