576,632. Pipe joints. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., ROLL, H. J. W., and WILSDON, S. C. Jan. 11, 1944, Nos. 518 and 16990. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXXI] A method of making a cycle frame comprises uniting to metal joint lugs tubular members of a synthetic resinous material or non- ferrous alloy by means of an adhesive having a synthetic resinous base. According to one method the metal joint lugs are mounted in a mould of stone or metal. Wooden cores are interposed between the lugs inside the mould and synthetic resinous material is injected in either a plastic or powdered condition after adhesive has been introduced to the lugs. Metal liners may be cast in the mould particularly at the seat pillar. Heat is then applied to cure the synthetic resinous material and at the same time to activate the adhesive. In an alternative method the tubes are made separately and tapered to fit corresponding tapers in the lugs which are coated with the adhesive. The joint is made under heat and a pressure of 50 lbs. per square inch. In both methods the metal lugs may be coated with plastic material to give a durable finish and the tubes of the same frame need not necessarily be of the same material and thickness.
