[Class 124] [Also in Group XXII] In a diamond or like tool, a parallel-sided transverse slot 1 is formed in the end of a steel shank 2 and compressed to sub. stantially the shape of a diamond 6 fitted in a transverse slot 9 in a wedge-shaped bar 8 which is forced from one end into the compressed slot and then brazed in position. The compression of the slot 1 may be effected by means of a hard steel bar of substantially the same cross-sectional shape as the bar 8, which latter is of the same length as the slot 1 and the upper side of which lies substantially flush with the end 7 of the shank.2.
