Abstract
574,990. Cycle pedals. STIRK, W. E., PYE, R. H., and HAMMOND, J. Feb. 14, 1944, No. 2680. [Class 136 (ii)] A folding bicycle pedal comprises a pedal frame 15 pivotally mounted at its inner end upon opposite sides of a carrier frame or member 14 rotatably supported upon a short stub spindle 6 in combination with a catch device adapted positively to lock the pedal frame in its extended position for use and also to hold it in its folded position. The catch 'device comprises plungers 20 which are pressed in by the fingers to enable the pedal frame 15 to be folded upwards. In the folded position, the pedal lies alongside the crank, a recess at the end 17 of the pedal engaging the crank to prevent rotation of the carrier frame 14 about the pedal spindle. In the folded position, the pedal is held by the plungers 20 protruding beyond the edges of the pedal frame 15. The plungers 20 are slidable in a tube 19 which can be removed for access to the spindle bearing when the plungers are pressed well into the tube. In a modification, plungers 20 are replaced by catch studs mounted on spring arms. The pedal can be of rat-trap or rubber tread pattern. Specification 6835/02, [Class 136], is referred to.
