Abstract

574,887. Friction grips. TURNER, W. Nov. 30, 1943, No. 19967. [Class 44] A device for frictionally resisting relative sliding movement between telescopic members 1, 5 comprises one or more spring fingers formed from one piece of material and each having a projection at its free end urged radially outwards by the finger, the fingers lying wholly or partly within the inner telescopic member 1 and being held in position therein by their frictional engagement with the inner surface thereof, the projections extending beyond the end of the inner telescopic member, or through apertures in the member, into frictional engagement with the inner wall of the outer telescopic member. Fig. 1 shows a tubular member 6 slotted to provide tongues 3 with integral projections 4a at their free ends. Fig. 2 shows a spring member 8 of U-form urging projections 4b outwards through apertures in member 1. An alternative arrangement comprises balls resting in depressions in, and urged outwardly by, the fingers. Parts subjected to wear may have a chromium deposit thereon.
