Abstract
574,787. Elastic-fluid turbines. SIEGFRIED, W. Feb. 18, 1944, No. 3097. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] The blades 4, which are welded to a rotor 1, are supported one against another by elastically, or plastically, deformable distance pieces. The distance pieces may be separate, or attached, or integral with the blade roots. A ring 3, composed of several parts, is inserted in a groove 2 between bars 10, and is straddled by blade roots 5 which have distance pieces 6. Before welding, adjacent blades are in contact only over a small surface 7, and the upper and lower sides of the ring 3 do not touch the underside of a blade root, or the lower part of the groove 2, respectively. When cooling sets in after welds 11 have been made, contraction causes the roots 5 to be drawn in radially towards the centre of the rotor 1, deforming the bars 10 and drawing the root 5, ring 3, and rotor 1 into firm contact. The pieces 6 are also deformed to increase the areas 7. The distance pieces may be in the form of bosses, separate from, or integral with, the blade roots. Elastically-yielding elements may be inserted between the blade roots. Gaps may be filled by caulking. Th e bars 10 may be of soft iron or copper.
