Abstract

573,641. Dispensing liquid fuel &c. GILBERT & BARKER MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 14, 1943, No. 20972. Convention date, March 5. [Class 116] A liquid dispensing apparatus'has a rotatable turret in which is mounted the window of a register which continuously faces the direction in which the liquid, such as petrol is to be dispensed. A standard 6 has a cap 8 upon which the turret 9 is mounted to turn about a vertical axis. Petrol is pumped through a tube 24 to a chamber 25a in a casing 25. The lower end 26 of the discharge pipe 27 communicates with the chamber 25a and is mounted in bearings 28 to turn about a vertical axis. Sealing devices are provided to prevent leakage of petrol around the pipe. The petrol passes from the pipe 27 through a meter 32, rotatably supported on the hub of a reel 35, then through the outlet pipe 40, similarly mounted to the pipe 26, into the chamber 37 in the hub. The reel is rotatably supported on a bearing 36 carried by a plate .34 fixed in the base of the turret. The pipe 27 is fixed to the plate 34 as at 33 so that the pipe turns with the turret. A hose 12 is wound on the reel and communicates at its inner end with a passage 51, which leads from the chamber 37. The outer end of the hose passes through horizontal and vertical rollers 52, 53 and is attached to a nozzle 14 which rests in the cavity 15. A spring 54, mounted in the reel rewinds the hose after use. The register 59 is fixed to the meter 32 by brackets 60 and the meter is fixed to the turret by channels 50. When the nozzle is removed from the cavity 15 and the hose pulled out, to service a car, the side thrust exerted on the rollers 53 turns the turret and hence the register in the direction of the car.
