Abstract
573,609. Twist grip controls. PORTER, S. Nov. 24, 1943, No. 19594. [Class 136 (i)] A cycle handlebar twist-grip control for brakes &c. comprises a rod 1 fixed inside the end of the handlebar 3 with a projecting portion having a multi-start screw-thread 2 thereon engaged by an internal screw-thread on a hand grip 5 extending over the handlebar, the inner member 9 of the Bowden cable being anchored at 10 to the hand grip and the outer member 12 being fixed to. the rod 1, the hand grip being returned to its original position after actuation of the brake &c. by a spring 18a. The rod 1 is pinned to the handlebar and has a threestart thread, and the tube 5 slides on a sleeve 7 fixed to the handlebar. The inner member of the Bowden cable passes through a central bore of the rod 1 and is anchored in a disc 11 fixed to the outer end of the tube 5. The brake rod 17 is connected to a plunger 16 in a casing 13 fixed to the steering column, operated by the Bowden cable against the spring 18a, which returns the brake and the twist grip to the off position. The brake is adjusted for wear by a nut 18.
