Abstract

573,133. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., TOWNER, S. H., and CHILDS, P. A. Dec. 8, 1943, No. 20507. [Class 38 (v)] A relay having an L-shaped armature 14 pivoted at 16 is adapted to withstand shock and to operate at substantially the same current even though the relay is subject to a high acceleration, by providing the armature with a balance weight 18 which brings the centre of gravity of the armature at or near to the pivot 16. The centre of gravity may be slightly to the right of the point 16 and on a line connecting 16 with the operating stud 17 so that the effect of an acceleration on the armature which tends to rotate the armature is balanced by the effect of the acceleration on the contact springs which acts in the opposite direction. Alternatively, as shown, the centre of gravity is at the point 16 and the effect of acceleration on the contact springs is balanced by an additional spring 19. Specification 566,778 is referred to.
