Abstract
In the fermentation of carbohydrates by Clostridium acetobutyricum or Clostridium butylobutyricum or bacteria producing mainly acids such as acetic, propionic and butyric acids, the production of acetone and butyl alcohol is increased by the addition to the mash of a small quantity of p-aminobenzoic acid. The addition may be made to maize mash, wood hydrolysate, or mash from dried dates or in carrying out the processes described in Specifications 572,642, 572,643 and 572,664.ALSO:In the fermentation of carbohydrates by clostridium acetobutylicum or clostridium butylobutyricum or bacteria producing mainly acids such as acetic, propionic and butyric acids, the production of acetone and butyl alcohol is increased by the addition to the mash of a small quantity of p-aminobenzoic acid.
